MLK Day

I'd like to thank my staff family members for all their diligent work to make our re-enactment of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther Kings march on Washington informative and enlightening. Just as in the days of MLK, our re-enactment over came evil elements that stood stout, in an attempt to dismay and discourage MLK's continuing legacy of PEACE. Thwarted, were the attempts of evil, whom continue to impose nightmarish visions of Dr. Kings dream. Undaunted, are the soldiers of peace (LES TEEN STAFF), whom continue to wake up young people from their slumber and give them the necessary encouragement and inspiration so that they themselves can remove the cloat that has blinded them and keeps them unconscious.

THE SUN WILL CONTINUE TO RISE, AND WITH IT, THE TRIUMPH OF OUR YOUTH!!!

March on Washington

(more video of the performances coming soon! and more photos in our Photo Albums on the left)

Thank you to Shaheeda, Dana and all the performers for a great evening in celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr and his words of peace and equality, and his sacrifice to make the world a better place.

A special thanks to those LES Teen members who contributed by attending the March on Washington re-enactment led by Dana, performing, helping with stage set up, and serving food. Your positivity and good spirits will return to you and MLK would have been proud!

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”
"At the center of non-violence stands the principle of love."
"Nonviolence means avoiding not only external physical violence but also internal violence of spirit. You not only refuse to shoot a man, but you refuse to hate him. "

Downtown Community Film and TV

Some LES Teens visited the DCTV filming center. DCTV offers after school training in documentary film making for FREE using the most advanced equipment & editing programs available. They also offer a 2 year fellowship for teens. Year 1: make a documentary piece on your life or a subject that interests you while learning video technique and software. Year 2: pick a country & an issue of your choice to create a documentary film on (all expenses paid!!). Deadline for applying for the fellowship is Feb 1, 2007.

Tonight we watched an intense documentary film made last year by a 17 year old in the program. He created a piece on living with his mother who was addicted to crack and then her struggle with cancer. It was incredibly thought provoking and well done! We also watched as two teens were working on the editing process of a film about gay youth and teenagers.

Speak to Lisa if you are interested in any of these programs, especially if you are interested in working in the media: directing, screen writing, camera work, sound, film editing, acting, etc. She has applications & more information.

Martin Luther King Celebration Friday January 19

See performances, hear written word, celebrate MLK's legacy! Ask yourself everyday if your behavior, if your actions, if your life reflects the DREAM? Martin Luther King is not about a day out of the year. Martin Luther King is about a way of life to make everyone equal so that we may live in peace together! Be your best person...celebrate positive role models and the rewards of goodness.
