Fall Check IN

Dana met with us to review some expectations before we head into winter. Below are some highlights:

* We cannot steer away from Program Goals: academics, job club, family life sex ed, self expression, power group, etc. All components are equally as important. Participating in all components brings us our funding to keep the program alive and enriches your life --if you participate fully. What you get from this experience will depend on how you participate.

* We are an academic program. Your main reason to participate should not revolve around stipends. Job Club is coming together. Let Lizzi know what you want out of it. Learn the basics: resume, how to interview, presentation etc. We will not send you to a job internship when we feel you are prepared and can show us professional behavior.

* Build a relationship with your guidance counselor. You can ask Jim to help you! Schools make mistakes. You want to be responsible for your own future!

* Disrespecting any member of the staff will not be tolerated. We are all human. If you have a complaint, handle it the way adults handle it: go to that person and voice your opinion without getting personal, and maintaining respect and thoughtfulness. If you do this, you can talk to anyone about anything and you'll get further with creating the life you want. Good communication can open doors. Bad communication will close them!

* ACADEMICS: We are here to HELP you get your work done!! Bring in your work!! We are all trained in one area or another to get your homework done. Doing fun puzzles is great if you have completed your work, but don't use academic time for pure socializing. Even if your work is done, have one of us look it over! We might be able to turn a C paper into an A paper right before your very eyes! We're magicians like that...

* Shaheeda emphasized the seriousness of getting your diploma! We're here to make it happen for you, but only if you utilize the staff. We can't force you. She also stressed mature behavior as you enter adulthood. What you choose to do now will affect the best years of your life to come.

For those of you helping out, respecting the staff, participating in the components, WE KNOW WHO YOU ARE! Good work!

We're proud of all of you for your commitment to the program and showing up. Showing up is sometimes the basic first step that will get you to where you want to be! Have a great second quarter....
